Healthy Coffee Creamer Alternative!

Not sure about y’all- but there are few things in this world I appreciate more than a hot, creamy cup of coffee! What I didn’t realize until I started WW (Weight Watchers) last year was how many points/calories I was using up for my beloved morning cup… or 3. Cue panic mode when I had all of a sudden used up half of my daily points on coffee creamer. I started looking into the nutrition facts for my typical drink orders at restaurants and YIKES! 50+ carbs (sometimes as much as 70 g) and 400+ calories for ONE DRINK- I knew there had to be a better way to get my fix.

I wish I was someone who could just sit back and enjoy a hot cup of black coffee- but I’m just not and there’s no pretending. So, let the experiments begin. I tried the almond, coconut, and oatmilk creamers and still wasn’t satisfied.. they all tasted watery and bland to me! I tried cutting out coffee completely and going for tea- that didn’t last very long either.

Eventually, I tried using the store-bought protein shakes as creamer and finally, we had a winner! I experimented with a couple of different brands and found that the Quest Salted Caramel and Premier Protein Cookies & Cream were by far my favorite and only had 1 gram of sugar per bottle. One more time for the people in the back- only 1 gram of sugar for the entire bottle! I only use about 1/4 of a carton per cup of coffee- making the entire cup 0 SmartPoints if you’re doing WW. If you’re counting calories, these “creamers” come in around 40 calories for 1/4 bottle.

If you’re feeling fancy or this isn’t quite sweet enough for you, you can add some cinnamon or sweetener ( I like Stevia because of the taste and also because it’s derived from a plant). I like the small cardboard cartons because they are easy to store and also super easy to travel with- another huge win! I take a carton with me pretty much every time I travel. They are small and don’t need to be refrigerated, all while making hotel coffee SO much tastier.

If y’all have tried this or found other creamer hacks for guilt-free coffee, definitely leave a comment and share your thoughts!

Cheers,

Alex
